Indie game Guacamelee! beats Tomb Raider on April PSN charts

Sprinkled among the 20 best-selling PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Network games from last month are a few indie games — including one that dominated the charts completely.

Guacamelee! from DrinkBox Studios beat out big-budget titles like Tomb Raider (at No. 2), Injustice: Gods Among Us (at No. 8), BioShock Infinite (at No. 9), and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen (at No. 12), according to the PlayStation Blog.

It's worth noting that these are downloads. Many gamers buy full titles in stores, and those purchases weren't counted — while games like Guacamelee! can only be redeemed through PSN. But the fact that an indie game surpassed some of spring's hottest games is impressive, even on a digital platform only.

Guacamelee! was also the top downloaded PlayStation Vita title.

In addition, Terraria took third, Journey placed 14th, and Dragon Fantasy Book 1 came in at No. 19 — and all are indie games. The season pass for The Walking Dead settled in seventh.
