According to a number of Guardians, Destiny appears to be suffering from some sort of connection error related to error code "NEWT."
While complaints of connection issues have been rolling in since the new patch dropped earlier this week, there appears to be an increase in the number of players reporting problems. Although developer Bungie has yet to acknowledge the issue, forums and social media outlets are flooded with complaints.
"I'm stuck in orbit and some stupid Newt won't let me go anywhere else? What gives Bungie," asked FireDriver222. Other Guardians have confirmed the same type of error.
We've looked the code up and it does appear to be connection related. Bungie suggests the following actions:
Please retry that activity again and resume what you were doing before the error occurred. If you encounter this error again, please exit Destiny then relaunch. If you continue to see this error, it’s likely due to testing we are doing on our end, please pardon our dust!
Bungie hasn't mentioned any testing and has yet to respond to the issue.
While there definitely appears to be a widespread issue, it's worth noting that it doesn't seem to be affecting everyone. We were able to boot up our PS4 copy of Destiny and traveled with no problem just now. So at least we know it's not a PlayStation Network issue for once.
So let us know in the comments below if you are experiencing any issues with Destiny's connection. We'll all get through this together.
