Well, this just couldn't have come at a better time. Not long after many video game websites were made to look like fools for not fact checking their sources and simply posting rumors, comes perhaps the biggest rumor of them all — and it's related to the new Star Wars film.
TheWrap is reporting J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) will direct the next Star Wars film for Disney. Their source?
"An individual with knowledge of the production."
It seems like this same individual told Deadline the exact same thing. And The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit also, although she adds negotions are "quite down the road."
Take all of this for what it's worth in light of the recent X-Surface debacle. Is there any truth to this or are we looking at a copycat hoax!?
See? It's not just the video game industry; it's media in general. Although I took pride in the fact that GameZone didn't fall for the latest Xbox rumor, I do encourage rumors and speculation; it's what helps drive today's industry!
I can't tell you for certain if this is true or not, but I can relay the information to you readers. You have the freedom to believe what you want; form your own conclusion based on this "individual with knowledge". I'm sure we'll find out sooner or later who the next Star Wars director will be, and if it is indeed J.J. Abrams then good for all of us. The man has worked wonders for Star Trek, now lets get that lens flare in Star Wars Episode VII!
