Jade Raymond: blockbuster game something ‘you hope will sell over 5 million copies’

This past March, Square Enix announced that three of their latest titles failed to meet company expectations – an announcement that was met with much criticsm. What caused uproar from the report was that two of the games Square Enix listed – Tomb Raider and Hitman: Absolution – sold incredibly well. Tomb Raider, at the time, had moved 3.4 million units, while Hitman had sold 3.6 million units. These massive sales numbers, and the news that they were “failures” in terms of expectations, led many to ask the question: What is a blockbuster game then?

Earlier Monday, IGN Associate Editor Mitch Dyer posted a tweet quoting Ubisoft Toronto’s Jade Raymond, as she gave her opinion on what is a blockbuster title:

Do you agree with Raymond? Or, should games like Tomb Raider and Hitman: Absolution that do considerably well commercially be dubbed blockbuster titles? Voice your opinions below in the comments section.
