Earlier this month, we heard rumors of how the Avengers would be split in the upcoming film Captain America: Civil War. The lines drawn were only rumor at the time, but it appears actor Jeremy Renner confirmed at least the side his character Hawkeye will be taking.
During an appearance at Wizard World Comic Con Chicago, Renner was baited into the answer when a fan asked him "how he felt about siding with The First Avenger" in the upcoming film.
"I don't know; they wrote me in that side," Renner replied, inadvertently confirming Hawkeye will side with Captain America. "It made sense to me."
Busted.
Realizing his slip up, as Marvel has yet to confirm the sides each hero will take, Renner quickly joked that "maybe I switched sides!"
Captain America: Civil War, slated to hit theaters in May 2016, picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off. If you recall, you could start to see the schism form between Steve Rogers (Captain America) and Tony Stark (Iron Man) in that movie; in Civil War, mounting political pressure stemming from an international incident resulting in collateral damage fractures that relationship further.
