Halloween is one of the most iconic horror franchises of all time… well, sort of. The first movie is seen as a classic and the sequel is pretty great as well but it all goes downhill after that. Most people ignore the other Halloween films just because they go so off the rails.
With that said, we're going to be getting a brand new Halloween film next year and there's been some debate about what movie's are considered cannon in this series. Some believed it would be after Halloween 2 but writer Danny McBride has noted that he's not a big fan of how the sequel reveals that Laurie Strode is Michael Myers' sister.
So, Halloween creator John Carpenter has set the record straight. Speaking to Stereo Gum, Carpenter stated that it'll be like nothing after the first movie ever happened.
“It’s kind of a… I don’t know how to describe it. It’s almost an alternative reality,” Carpenter described the film. “It picks up after the first one and it pretends that none of the others were made. It’s gonna be fun. There’s a really talented director and it was well-written. I’m impressed.”
The film will take place forty years after the original movie and Jamie Lee Curtis is set to reprise her role as Laurie Strode, Judy Greer is in talks to play her daughter in the film. The untitled Halloween film will release on October 19th, 2018.
