Jon Favreau casts James Earl Jones, Donald Glover in live action Lion King

Ain't no passin' craze

It seems that live action remakes are the hip thing now. Director Jon Favreau is currently working on the Lion King remake, which doesn't have too much information on it yet. That changed last night when Favreau announced two new cast members for the film.

Actors Donald Glover and the legendary James Earl Jones have been signed for the film. Jones will of course play the voice for Mufasa as he did in the original, while Donald Glover will be the voice of Simba. Although they didn't specify which, we'd imagine it would have to be older Simba. No word yet on any other cast members, and no rumors if Jeremy Irons would return to play Scar.

It will be interesting to see how Favreau does the Lion King. Compared to the Jungle Book, there are more animals requiring voices while both Simba and Nala required two each. Who knows, maybe it will be Jonathan Taylor Thomas' comeback role? Yeah we know probably not, but it would be funny right? Check out the announcement by Favreau below from Twitter.
