DC has a wide range of female superheroes and villains and they're finally looking to bring them to the big screen. Later this year, Wonder Woman will make her first standalone film appearance and after that, DC has plans to have multiple female lead films like Gotham City Sirens and even a Batgirl film.
Although those other films are pretty far away, there is some very exciting news for comic book fans. The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon is in talks with DC to helm the Batgirl film. No contracts have officially been signed but Variety reports he's close to agreeing to write and direct the film.
This joins the massive plans for DC's movie universe which includes Wonder Woman, Justice League, Aquaman, Cyborg, The Flash, Gotham City Sirens, Justice League 2, Batman, Man of Steel 2, Suicide Squad 2, Black Adam, Shazam, Nightwing, and many other films. The Batgirl film has no release date yet.
The first female superhero standalone film, Wonder Woman, will debut on June 2nd, 2017.
