Justice League scribe has rewritten Ben Affleck’s The Batman script

Easy now, don't freak out

Ben Affleck pretty much sucked the air out of DC films fans when he announced that he was no longer directing The Batman, but would still stay on to act and produce. A lot of us were taken by surprise and were wondering what would happen with the script. It turns out, the script appears to be in much better shape than we all thought.

Apparently, Affleck was merely playing coy with us about the script, as he's finished a draft of it with DC's Geoff Johns. If that's not all, that draft was passed on to Justice League / Batman vs. Superman screenwriter Chris Terrio who has completed a rewrite of it. Deadline made the initial report, saying that

Affleck, who most recently helmed Live by Night, wrote the script with Geoff Johns, and a rewrite was just turned in by Chris Terrio, the Oscar-winning scribe of the Affleck-directed Argo.

It's good to know that the script is at least this far along considering there is currently no director, but cautious optimism remains the phrase of the day on The Batman. It's also worth noting that Terrio wrote Argo, which won Affleck an Academy Award. A few names have been thrown around for the director position, but I'd like to think Affleck has gained the benefit of the doubt at this point with his resume.

We'll have to wait and see for now, but what are your thoughts on The Batman so far?
