The CLANNAD visual novel first made its appearance as a game on consoles in 2004, then it was adapted into an anime in 2007. While the anime and the game were wildly popular, only the anime made it out of Japan to other regions.
A Kickstarter project has been launched by a startup company named Sekai project, that looks to bring exposure to indie creators. The project aims to bring CLANNAD overseas by localizing and translating the CLANNAD visual novel.
The aim is to bring in $140K so that the game can be fully voiced with top quality translations (it has over 50 hours of gameplay — so that means a lot of translating) and brought to Steam. The Kickstarter for CLANNAD launched today and ten people have already made the $1,000 pledge, making it officially unavailable (as well as the $30 and $40 pledge). Potential Backers have plenty of incentives to become full fledged Backers. There are tapestries, T-Shirts and mini-shikishi drawn personally by the CLANNAD artist, Itaru Hinoue.
If the Kickstarter is popular enough, the game might see a physical release (as opposed to digital only).
