Konami gives the go-ahead for the remake of the original Metal Gear

Independent mod team Outer Heaven is already knee-deep in their remake of the original Metal Gear, but their efforts were only officially approved by Konami today.

The remake is being made using Valve’s Alien Swarm engine but, as per Konami’s approval, “cannot use [Konami’s] copyright material to promote a product you are selling or making any profit from.” Being unable to profit from their work sounds crippling, and it may very well be, but the fact of the matter is that Outer Heaven is likely remaking the game not out of want of financial gain but simply as an homage to the series (among more secular reasons like development experience and enjoyment).

Fortunately for OH, Konami’s thumbs-up means they’ve got some extra elbow room to develop with, so if you’re interested in joining the team contact them at outerheavendev@gmail.com
