Konami reveals HD assets for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate already exist

This morning, Konami's head of UK studio Dave Cox revealed to CVG that if Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate is successful on the 3DS, they would "absolutely" consider an upgraded version for home consoles. According to Cox, they already have an HD version of the game sitting around waiting.

Cox said: "We created everything in high definition — all the textures, all the levels, high-poly models, everything — and we kind of shrunk it down into the 3DS. Then we lost bones from characters, you know, we dropped the resolution of the textures and everything to make it fit. At MercurySteam we have an HD version of the game sitting there in a computer somewhere."

I hope he knows the exact location of the HD version, because if the game does well on the 3DS I don't want to have to sit around and wait for the manhunt of the HD version to be found. As to whether they would consider an HD console version, Cox responded with, "Absolutely, yeah. We would consider it. We want as many people to play it as possible."

Right now, there is an exclusivity deal with Nintendo. So if they do move forward with plans for an HD console version, they'd either have to release it only on the Wii U or work something out to get it on all consoles. Mirror of Fate is set for a March 5 release date in the United States, with the game releasing in the UK March 8.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate will be the first Castlevania game to use stereographic 3D, but movement will be confined to 2.5D in most areas. The combat will be similar to that in Lords of Shadow, but Mirror of Fate will focus more on exploration. Mirror of Fate starts 26 years after Lords of Shadow and will feature four playable characters.
