A source close to Kotaku has told them that Batman: Arkham Origins — the prequel to Arkham Asylum and Arkham City — will have multiplayer. Origins, the third game in the series, was announced earlier this month and will revolve around eight of the world's deadliest assassins coming to Gotham City on Christmas Eve to kill Batman.
The source, who correctly tipped off Kotaku about the snowy theme for the box cover/Game Informer's cover, said that there will be multiplayer, but would not give a ton of specifics. He did say that one section of the multiplayer has you play as a member of Joker's or Bane's gang while trying to take down Batman and Robin. Villains that might be playable and customizable include Deadshot, Killer Croc, Firefly, Deathstroke and Black Mask.
It's just rumors, but it's interesting enough. It wouldn't be surprising for Warner Bros. Montreal — taking over for Rocksteady Studios — to try to make the game their own and add multiplayer in. They just need to tread carefully. The multiplayer would have to fit in with the game and feel natural, otherwise it could prove detrimental to the series. Don't throw multiplayer in for the heck of it.
Batman: Arkham Origins releases on October 25 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and PC.
