Last Week’s Secret Chamber Discovery in Giza Pyramid Was Already in Assassin’s Creed Origins

Last week, it was discovered that a previously undetected space in the Egyptian Great Pyramid of Giza actually had an open space. Ironically, the new Egypt-based Assassin's Creed Origins already had a chamber built in that space because, as the game creators explained, they already thought to put one in.

Assassin's Creed Origins takes you to Giza in 50 B.C. The game doesn't just include the chambers we already know about, it also includes many undocumented hidden chambers and an internal ramp-way. This actually aligns with a French architect, Jean-Pierre Houdin's theory about how the entire pyramid was built. The Assassin's Creed team had worked with Houdin for years, according to the representative that spoke to Kotaku UK.

“We have long believed that Jean-Pierre Houdin’s theories about the inner ramps and royal circuit with two antechambers inside the Great Pyramid are probably the most credible, which is why we decided to use them in the game,” the AC series’ historian Maxime Durand told Kotaku in an e-mailed statement. “We were betting on the fact that these secret locations inside of the Great Pyramid would probably be discovered in the near future, so we wanted to allow players the chance to visit them in advance.”

Players can find this new area on the north side of the Pyramid. There's an opening from the outside into the now undisputed space. Here's what it looks like.

But due to their work with Houdin, there are a few other speculated antechambers added into the game. One of which is behind the King's Chamber:

And a second, which is theorized to have been used as a pathway to the pharaoh's funeral procession.

Ubisoft has always taken extra precautions to make landmarks in the Assassin's Creed series interesting, if not accurate in some way. Most of the time, it's a "Well, you can't prove it didn't happen! So Assassins did it!" kind of situation. But sometimes, they go the extra mile and apparently work with a real-life architect with an in-progress theory in play. Talk about awesome PR!
