League of Legends and eSports breaking viewership records

Well, well, well… it appears that the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship event brought in record-setting audience.  This event housed the largest indoor eSports stage in world history.

Thousands of fans packed the hall to watch their favorite League of Legends teams pair up against each other.  There were so many people at the event that they actual had to turn away eager viewers once the hall met its capacity.  Keep in mind Hall 23 at CeBIT can hold thousands of people within it.

Besides the people to actually showed up to the competition, hundreds of thousands more viewers watched via online coverage.  There were over 267,000 watching the live stream at one time from viewers across 181 countries worldwide.  This number is a new world record for an eSports audience outside of Korea.

Over the entire IntelEm World Championship coverage, 2.2 million people tuned in to watch the competition.  This just shows the rising success of both League of Legends and eSports.  I can foresee this growth snowballing and interest only growing at this time.  Congrats to both Riot and eSports for making world record numbers.
