League of Legends ‘Dominion Mode’ Now Permanently Available

Last week, Riot Games introduced their newest gameplay mode, Dominion, to the League of Legends fanbase. As part of a limited beta test, Riot opened testing windows for players to preview Dominion.

Apparently Dominion passed those tests as Riot Games today announced that Dominion is now available and here to stay for good.

As announced on the League of Legends site:

“The moment that you’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived! Today, you’ll step onto the battlefield to face off against your opponents on the Crystal Scar! Get ready to capture, defend and dominate your enemies in this brand new game mode for League of Legends!”

“We promised to deliver the unexpected in 2011, and today we make good on that claim.”

For those unfamiliar with the newly introduced mode, Dominion is a capture-and-hold type mode where players must work together capture control points located on a small arena-based map. Once captured, they must hold on to these points as they drain the enemy Nexus life.

“League of Legends: Dominion is the latest example of our ongoing commitment to bringing you the best of the MOBA genre in new and innovative ways. You’ve been requesting new battlefields upon which to test your skills, and today you’ll do battle not only on a brand new Field of Justice, but in an entirely new and groundbreaking game mode!”

Dominion features a brand new map, the Crystal Scar, where players engage in smaller skirmishes. The games are quicker, more intense, and more combat-oriented. Dominion effectively removes the “laning” phase of LoL and focuses more on the player versus player aspect.

Players begin the match at level 3 with a little more than 1300 gold. From there, the match begins and players vie for control over the five Capture points. Dominion games last 20-25 minutes, on average.

In honor of the launch, Riot has released a ‘How-to’ video detailing the specifics of Dominion.
