Lucasfilm will not digitally recreate Carrie Fisher in future Star Wars films

Honoring her legacy.

Since the untimely and unfortunate death of movie legend, Carrie Fisher, rumors have been spreading suggesting Lucasfilm and Disney are considering digitally recreating her likeness for future Star Wars films.

Disney has done this for both living and deceased actors, in Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War they digitally de-aged some actors to make them appear younger. In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, *some spoilers ahead* Grand Moff Tarkin appears and he looks exactly the same as he did in the original trilogy despite the actor having passed away. Lucasfilms used digitally added the actor's face on someone else's body, making it appear as if the actor was still alive. It has caused some question about morals and legality issues with using people's likeness but Disney and Lucasfilm stuck by their decision.

Carrie Fisher was also recreated in Rogue One (this was done prior to her death, of course) to make her look much younger as it is a prequel to Star Wars: A New Hope. So, if they did all that (on top of other movies like Fast and Furious recreating people like Paul Walker), will they recreate Carrie?

The answer is no. Lucasfilms and Disney released an official statement regarding the rumors and said she will not be digitally recreated.

"We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.

Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars."

Carrie Fisher supposedly finished all of her parts for Star Wars Episode VIII, but the question remains on how they'll handle her character in Episode IX if she was set to be in it.
