I love my parents. They're a little crazy sometimes, but they're good people. And they're great grandparents to my children. They spoil them, like every grandparent does. The difference between my children's grandparents and the ones in The Visit is that while my kids get spoiled, it appears that the grandparents in the film want to kill the kids, or stick them in the oven to cook them before they spoil.
M. Night Shyamalan's latest film since the Will Smith-flop After Earth sees a return to horror for the writer/producer/director. The Visit tells the story of a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents' remote Pennsylvania farm for a weeklong trip. Once the children discover the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home are growing smaller every day.
There's some creepy imagery and scenes in the trailer, with some of the shots reminding me a bit of The Happening and The Village. But I also couldn't help but chuckle at some parts. It's kind of like I've been there and done that. The most terrifying outcome would be if the grandparents are swingers and that's why they don't want the kids to come out of the bedroom past 9:30 when they hear carnal howls.
The Visit releases in theaters this September.
