Mafia 3 story expansions get details and release windows

Mafia 3 released in October to a lukewarm reception from critics (including us) due to repetitive gameplay and lack of overall polish. The one game the game truly excelled at was its storytelling and characters and Hanger 13 looks to be doubling down on those strengths for their upcoming story expansions.

After some free content updates in 2016, Hanger 13 has confirmed they're on track to release their three planned story DLCs over the course of the next few months. The first DLC titled "Faster, Baby!" will drop at the end of March and will be centered around Lincoln Clay and a new female character, Roxy Laveau. The two will join arms to take on a shady Sheriff terrorizing civil rights activists, kinda timely right? Faster, Baby! is being described as a fast-paced, vehicle-based DLC which promotes intense and dramatic car chases through the streets and swamps of New Bordeaux! Think Fast and Furious in the '60s! The DLC will also take players to unseen parts of the already incredibly large New Bordeaux.

Narrative Director Bill Harms talked about how they're approaching the DLC after the reception of Mafia 3's main campaign.

“We were really humbled by the response to the characters and the story in Mafia III, so we wanted to double-down on that as much as possible, while also providing players with different gameplay experiences. Mafia III focuses on the systematic destruction of Sal Marcano's empire, racket-by-racket, while all of the expansions tell direct, linear stories."

The other two DLCs were also given some teasers and release windows. After "Faster, Baby!", Hanger 13 will release the second story expansion titled "Stones Unturned" in May. The DLC will surround Lincoln Clay and CIA buddy John Donovan teaming up to close old wounds with someone they crossed paths with in the Vietnam war. It's unclear if there will be flashbacks that allow you to see Lincoln's time in Vietnam, but some old concept art certainly hints at playable Vietnam sections.

The last DLC will drop in July and will be a somewhat supernatural DLC titled "Sign of the Times". After a rise in ritualistic killings in New Bordeaux, Lincoln's spiritual advisor, Father James, requests Lincoln to investigate. You'll uncover dark secrets as you investigate the cult and experience a new side of New Bordeaux.
