Mario Kart 8’s two new items revealed

Nintendo has revealed two new items that will make an appearance in Mario Kart 8: the Piranha Plant and the Boomerang Flower.

The Piranha Plant attaches to the front of your kart and comps at other characters, banana peels, and even shells thrown out by other characters. Each time the Piranha Plant lunges forward to bite, you receive a brief boost of speed.

The Boomerang Flower can be thrown at other opponents to stun them. It can be thrown three times, forward or backward, and its arc allows it to strike multiple opponents with a single toss.

In addition to these two new items, Nintendo also confirmed there will be 32 courses available to race on in Mario Kart 8 — 16 brand new tracks and 16 remixed classic courses from previous Mario Kart games.

Mario Kart 8 is set to release on May 30 exclusively for Wii U.
