Despite selling well, Marvel has decided to cut ties

Marvel's Darth Vader solo comic is ending

All good things must come to an end. At least, before they are milked dry like a cow with nothing left to give. That is precisely the situation with Marvel's Darth Vader solo comic, which will be coming to an end after issue #25 releases in August. Speaking with IGN, writer Kieron Gillen explained the situation.

"It was a situation where, you know, we've always said all the way through, from Darth Vader #1, that this was a story with a beginning, a middle and an end. And we kind of looked where we were after Vader Down, and we realized we were probably actually nearer to the end than we thought we were. And it was a situation where we were like, 'Okay, it's better to actually end this story in a way which we think is the most effective. We don't want to pad it out extraneously.'"

The Darth Vader comics are well regarded in the way they portray the Sith Lord as someone looking to reclaim their position within the Galactic Empire. It gives great insight into a post-Clone Wars universe where Jedi and Sith are considered relics of a time gone by. It also explores the other side of the war between the Rebels and the Empire, diving into the ramifications of the destruction of the Death Star, which is described as "the greatest military disaster in history".

Here's hoping that we haven't seen the last of Darth Vader in Marvel comics.
