Marvel Studios president talks Joss Whedon directing DC Comics Batgirl movie

A few months ago, it was revealed that The Avengers director Joss Whedon would be helming the untitled Batgirl film. Whedon directed the first two Avengers films for Marvel and will be making the jump over to DC in the very near future.

Many wondered if this angered some of the executives at Marvel but it seems that's not the case. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talked about Whedon's next directorial effort during a press event last night.

"He called a couple months ago, which he didn’t have to do and was super cool of him and super nice of him” said Feige. “And we couldn’t be more supportive. We want to see a Joss Whedon Batgirl film be awesome.”

There was previously some bad blood between Marvel and Whedon during the making of Avengers: Age of Ultron. There was some studio interference and Whedon was forced to include specific story elements that would set up future films among other things. Whedon was also forced to removed other scenes in favor of the scenes Marvel wanted which obviously ticked Whedon off. It sounds like the two are on better terms now but it's unlikely he'll return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Press also asked Feige about Josh Brolin being cast as Cable in Deadpool 2 despite him playing Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

“We don’t have anything written into our contracts about other roles that people can do,” said the Marvel chief. “Indiana Jones and Han Solo are the same person … it hasn’t been a problem. And I think Thanos and Cable are two very different characters.”

It sounds as if Marvel doesn't have any major restrictions on their cast and crew and just want to see people spread their creative wings. It's probably unlikely you'll ever see anyone play a Marvel and DC character at the same time, though.
