Metal Gear creator unveiling Fox Engine next month

Metal Gear turns 25-years-old this month, and creator Hideo Kojima is nearly ready to show off his next contribution to video games.

"The Fox Engine is nearly finished, but the only way to be sure it works is to create a game at the same time and improve the engine with our tools as we go along," he said.

Kojima visited studios around the world for a year and a half, to get a sense of how others worked. Since the Fox Engine was going to be a considerable undertaking, he and his team began developing Peace Walker.

His studio was originally going to fine-tune the Fox Engine during the development of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but "a lot happened along the way," and instead Platinum Games used their in-house engine.

"Production studios in Japan are nearly extinct, a fact that we have recognized for nearly 10 years, and although the Fox Engine is not finished we are ready to show what it can do … on August 30th in Japan to be more specific."
