Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain microtransactions priced

Last week, Konami clarified that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's competitive multiplayer mode, Forward Operating Base (FOB), would not be locked behind a paywall. They did include that there would be microtransactions to act as 'accelerators,' as the coins that you can purchase can be earned in-game.

FOBs are bases that you develop in single player, using resources and soldiers your recruit. They can generate resources for your own Mother Base and can be used to attack other players – – this also means that you're opening yourself up for attacks by doing that. It's a bit like Clash of Clans in some ways.

Your FOB can be attacked while you're playing the game, giving you the chance to defend your base or they can be attacked when you're not playing, leaving your friends to defend you. If you want, you can take your FOB fully offline and remove yourself from the FOB fights.

Note, if someone beats your base — they can literally steal it.

Back to the microtransactions…

Prices for the coins used in the FOB base have not only been revealed, but confirmed:

  • $79.95 for 6000 coins
  • $48.95 for 3500 coins
  • $15.95 for 1150 coins
  • $7.50 for 550 coins
  • $1.65 for 100 coins

If my math is right, buying in bulk won't really save you much money.
