Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain’s multiplayer will have you breaking and entering bases

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will carry its stealthy subterfuge into its multiplayer by allowing players to invade, sabotage and outright steal the Mother Bases of others.

A new video from the title's gamescom 2014 presentation (seen above, the multiplayer footage beginning around 16:50) shows off the features of base raiding. To combat invaders, you can beef up the security and design of your own base with such gadgets as infrared barriers, security guards, turrets and patrolling robots. On the offensive side of the fence, these can also be stolen from others.

The assault seen in the video above is cut short by the rocket-touting appearance of the defending player, but PvP implications are clear enough. However, much remains to be seen regarding the ultimate goal for Musical Mother Bases, not the least of which is the possibility of alternate game types—certainly not team deathmatch and the like but perhaps targeting a different area.
