Microsoft giving free Xbox One game for defective consoles

Microsoft is giving away a free first-party game to some Xbox One users experiencing defective hardware.

"While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game," Microsoft said in a statement. "We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios."

Xbox One owners with problems will receive a digital copy of a game of their selection: Forza Motorsport 5, Dead Rising 3, Ryse: Son of Rome, or Zoo Tycoon. And because it's a digital version, it will still play on a machine with a malfunctioning disc drive.

Microsoft continues to replace hardware at a fast rate, sending out replacement units before users even mail out their faulty consoles. The company maintains that Xbox One issues are affecting just a "small number" of customers. If you are experiencing troubles with your Xbox One, Microsoft recommends calling support: 1-800-4-MYXBOX.
