Responding to those who may be upset over the recent Xbox One price drop in the UK, Microsoft has said they are "hugely appreciative" of those who pick up an Xbox One at launch. Unfortunately, Xbox UK marketing director Harvey Eagle clarified that the company "can't offer a retroactive refund" to those upset that they paid full price for the system not long ago.
"We're hugely appreciative of people that have supported us since launch. What I would say is that mainly the consoles that were bought in the run-up to launch did come with a game included (FIFA 14), and this offer is timed to celebrate the launch of Titanfall," Eagle said to OXM.
"Unfortunately we can't offer a retroactive refund to people, but we thank them very much and we're hugely appreciative of them being on board since the beginning," he concluded.
Earlier this week, Microsoft revealed the Xbox One's new price of £399.99, £30 cheaper than its original launch price of £429.99. In addition to the price cut, new Xbox One purchases will include a copy of Titanfall or FIFA 14. It should be noted that while the free copy of Titanfall is limited, the actual price drop on the Xbox One will be permanent.
At this point, the price cut has only been announced for the UK, though we expect it's only a matter of time before it spreads to other countries. On the plus side, the Titanfall Xbox One Bundle is also available in the United States for a limited time — $499 for the console and a free copy of Titanfall.
Do you think Microsoft should offer some sort of compensation for those who purchased an Xbox One at launch? Cutting the price of a new console just three months after launch may seem unheard of, but Microsoft actually pulled a similar stunt with the original Xbox. They made it up to people by offering them two free games and a controller.
