Back in September, Microsoft purchased Minecraft and its developer Mojang for $2.5 billion. At the time of purchase Microsoft said they "respect the brand and independent spirit that has made Minecraft great" and that they would continue supporting the game.
Still, when a studio or a company is acquired by another company, things tend to change. Fans of Minecraft might have been concerned about how Microsoft would plan on changing the game or MineCon, the annual convention for the game. Fortunately, Microsoft won't be changing the formula on how Mojang handles conventions.
Speaking to GamesBeat, Microsoft clarified that they would not be putting their hands in Mojang's cookie jar when it comes to the annual Minecraft celebration:
“Mojang is running Minecon 2015 in the same manner as their past events. We’re playing a supporting role; we want to listen, learn, and be inspired by the community that has made Minecraft great.”
It's good that Microsoft is looking to preserve the fanbase, keeping players happy keep's Microsoft's wallets well-lined.
