Middle-earth: Shadow of War says Xbox’s Project Scorpio is everything they promised

Monolith Productions has been quietly working on the recently revealed follow-up to Middle-earth: Shadow or Mordor, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game won't simply be heading to those three gaming platforms, though, it is also coming to Xbox's Project Scorpio.

According to Microsoft, Project Scorpio will feature eight cores, six teraflops, 320GB/s memory bandwidth, 4K/VR gaming, backward compatibility (for Xbox One and 360 games), and will be available in 2017. Monolith's studio head Kevin Stephens has come out to speak on the console, saying that Microsoft hasn't lied about how powerful it is.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Stephens commented on Project Scorpio and developing for it.

"We've found nothing false about their claims about the hardware. As far as we can tell, it will be the most powerful console ever created when it launches – unless somebody has an announcement I don't know about."

Stephens went on to comment on the Xbox team altogether:

"I can't speak for Microsoft, but from our point of view they seem very committed to, you know, if you buy an Xbox One, whether it's a One, or an S, or a Scorpio you're going to buy a game and [be able to] play it on any of them. That seems very consistent with our experience of working on those platforms."

In the gameplay video for Shadow of War, it became very clear that Microsoft is in charge of the game's marketing, something they confirmed recently. It will be interesting to see whether we get to see Shadow of War playing on Project Scorpio this E3.
