Mighty No. 9’s newest gameplay is more Mega Man-y than ever

Mega Man co-designer Keiji Inafune has dropped a new gameplay trailer for his new project Mighty No. 9, a 2D action-platformer that is absolutely, positively, definitely not Mega Man.

As was the case with the first snippet of non-prototype gameplay, the video shows protagonist Beck blasting, dodging and platforming his way through side-scrolling levels objectively reminiscent of the original Blue Bomber. Female partner Call has yet to be shown off in gameplay, though character design and animations have popped up on the game’s Kickstarter page.

Mighty No. 9 is another check on Kickstarter’s list of successes, having rocketed to completion and onto its stretch goals in only 3 days after it launched on August 31. With 67,226 backers at its end, the campaign wound up with over $2.9 million in excess after shattering its $900k goal.
