Minecraft has now sold over 7 million copies on PC

Despite the release of several new versions, including one for Xbox 360, MInecraft on PC keeps chugging along.

The blocky survival-adventure game that started it all for creator Markus 'Notch' Persson and his company, Mojang, has just surprised 7 million copies sold on PC, according to Mojang business developer Danial Kaplan.

“Thank you all Minecrafters around the world showing such dedication and support,” he added on Twitter.

It took less than three months for an additional 1 million copies to sell, increasing total worldwide lifetime sales from the previous 6 million to the current 7 million. In the end of May, it was reported that lifetime Minecraft sales for all platforms (PC, Xbox 360, iOS, and Android) reached 9.2 million.

The current total for Minecraft on PC sits at 7,008,456 and is continuing to grow. In the past 24 hours, about 13,000 more people have purchased Minecraft on PC.

And the PC version isn't the only successful one. As of July 20, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition sold over 3 million copies.

Soon Minecraft fans will be able to gather around together and celebrate as Mojang recently announced MineCon 2012 is to be held in Disneyland Paris on November 24-25. This is the second annual convention dedicated to all things Minecraft; the first was held in Las Vegas where it quickly sold out to 4,500 fans.
