Minecraft retail release for Xbox 360 delayed until June

The disc-based version of Minecraft is arriving a little later than April 30, as originally planned. Now the Xbox 360 retail game is releasing on June 4 in the U.S., according to Major Nelson (aka Larry Hryb).

Gamers on the console have collectively logged over a billion hours of playtime in less than a year. The downloadable has sold over 6 million copies as of late March. The retail release is expected to boost that figure.

The immense popularity of the sandbox game, which is available on a number of platforms including PC and mobile, has significantly increased the influence of creator Markus "Notch" Persson, as shown in this year's Time 100 Poll.
