The Mass Effect franchise might not be what it used to these days but thanks to Toadman Interactive, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon of a grand adventure in space. Minimal Affect wears its heart brashly on its sleeves and is an homage to BioWare’s space epic mixed with a hefty dose of humor reminding us of adult cartoons. Watch the hilarious announcement trailer here!
Swedish game studio Toadman Interactive has unveiled its newest project and for anyone who’s played the Mass Effect trilogy, the similarities are uncanny. A rag-tag group of aliens with a generic human male at the helm – sorry, but not sorry Commander Shepard – goes on a grand adventure in space to save the galaxy.
Cover shooting? Check. Squad-based third-person action? Check. Chatter with each unique crew member? Check. For crying out loud, the crew could be easily mistaken as the real deal! But hey, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery they say. And if you copy, take notes from the best.
Strap yourself in and get ready for the galaxy’s most out-of-this-world sci-fi RPG! Live the action-packed life of a space hero bringing peace and order to the universe – by ANY means necessary!
Command a crew of questionably capable, likely insane, yet undeniably charming cadets on their haphazard travels across the Milky Way. Enjoy immensely satisfying 3rd person combat and narrative choice that’s overflowing with humor, as well as technically legal obscenities you won’t find in any other video game – especially after the ESRB hears about this one! And remember: In space, nobody can spell your name.
And it’s not like Minimal Affect is a mere copy. Quite the opposite. The entire tone of the game feels much more like a cartoon show. With the captain being more of a joke than a cool hero. And that’s exactly what makes the game stand out so much. Its unique sense of humor that puts fun on the forefront.
Minimal Affect is targeting to launch sometime in 2021 on PC and most major console platforms.
