It's kind of funny that while some mobile devs have claimed that Angry Birds is the Super Mario Bros. of the modern generation of gaming, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto is actually praising the wildly popular mobile game. This is especially funny because Rovio Mobile, the creator of Angry Birds, has made some ridiculous not-so-positive comments directed toward the Big N. In a statement to HookShot, the iconic game designer said he loved Angry Birds and even wishes he would have been the guy behind the project.
"There aren’t many games that I’ve played recently that have been truly convincing to me," said Miyamoto. "But that said, I have very much enjoyed Angry Birds, especially the way in which it combines traditional and new game elements in exciting ways. Angry Birds is a very simple idea but it’s one of those games that I immediately appreciated when I first started playing, before wishing that I had been the one to come up with the idea first."
The Shigmeister went on to praise the game's simplicity, saying that the controls, though not always perfect, were very functional and provided an awesome experience. He did, however, mention that if Rovio had made Angry Birds for the Nintendo DS, it would have controlled much better and been a perfect fit.
Personally, I'm not a fan of Angry Birds. And it's not because it's cool to dislike Angry Birds. No, I just don't really dig the game, and it doesn't look appealing to me in any capacity. Still, it's really interesting seeing what a Nintendo guy had to say about Angry Birds, especially since it was all very positive. Hey, Rovio, why don't you try being nice and positive like that, too?
