MLB 2K12 Perfect Game Challenge winner announced

MLB 2K12's Perfect Game Challenge champion has been crowned.

21-year-old Chistopher Gilmore of Melbourne, Florida, will be featured in a 30-minute special on Spike TV on May 24, 2012 at 11:30 PM ET/PT, and awarded $1 million for winning a live, single-elimination tournament at the MLB Fan Cave in New York City.

“Winning this year’s Perfect Game Challenge is an amazing achievement that required great skill and composure in an intense tournament atmosphere,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “Chris is incredibly deserving of the $1 million prize; he certainly earned it by beating some really stiff competition.”

And because we care about all of our gamers, let's give a shout out to Charles Bates of Conway, Ark. Bates was defeated 10-1 in the head-to-head tournament that was made up of the top-eight ranked individuals from a massive qualifying phase that included more than 900 verified perfect games and nearly 1,000,000 attempts.  The top eight finalists were determined by a dynamic leaderboard ranking the "most perfect' games thrown using an algorithm to rank each perfect game based on degree of difficulty (such as the opposing team’s offensive prowess and selected pitcher’s skill) and degree of perfection (number of strikeouts, pitching efficiency).
