In the ever-growing genre of MOBA-like games, we have yet another entry that wants to vie for your attention. Gigantic is a MOBA-like game, in that, it is a team-based, third-person shooter with leveling as the game progresses. While it's guilty of using the overly cartoonish graphics to appeal to players of games like Overwatch and League of Legends, at least it's trying to do something new with its gameplay.
The premise is simple, you have a team of five, well, technically six, if you include your "gigantic" guardian, you're tasked to protect. Like any other MOBA, your team's goal is simple, move forward on the map and unlock new abilities, while summoning protectors along the way. In order to win, you must advance to the point where you can attack the other team's guardian, at which point your own team's guardian will swoop in and attack theirs and if you continue to fight off their defenses, your guardian will K.O. theirs and you win.
The concept is simple, but the gameplay is frantic and to be honest, fun. In a sea of games that seem to copy each other's formula, DOTA, League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm, Vain Glory and countless others, it's refreshing to see a company take a new approach to a "MOBA-like" game. I'm beginning to think that MOBA-Like" will become its own genre, much like Roguelike. The game features 19 characters to select from, all with unique powers and abilities and of course, skins. What's a competitive game today, without a plethora of skins and variants?
In any event, Gigantic is now available on Steam and the game is free, so it's worth a look. If you're not a big PC gamer, the game is also available on Xbox One.
