When it comes to the PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, more gamers are preferring to play CD Projekt RED's massive open-world RPG using GOG rather than Steam.
According to a recent press release, GOG Galaxy, DRM-free online gaming platform linked with online digital retailer GOG.com, is home to over 690,000 players for The Witcher 3. That's more than all other PC distribution platforms combined, which is quite surprising given the foothold Steam has in the PC gaming marketplace.
Other impressive GOG Galaxy numbers include more than 21.5 petabytes of game and bonus content delivered, 3.5 million achievements unlocked, and 1,770 combined years of game time spread over more than 190 countries.
While the number of GOG players can be attributed to the consumer friendly nature of GOG Galaxy, something Steam was once known for, it's also quite likely that GOG's discounts on The Witcher 3 leading up to its release also played a big role. Green Man Gaming, another digital distribution platform, also sold GOG keys for the game at a discount, which also could've helped sales.
In total, over four million copies of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have been sold since its release in mid-May. If you're still on the fence, I suggest checking out our review.
