Multiplayer confirmed for Batman: Arkham Origins

Turns out, the rumor regarding multiplayer in Batman: Arkham Origins is true. Furthermore, the slim details that were offered at the time weren't too far off from what the mode consists of.

The new online multiplayer mode has a somewhat unconventional setup pitting Batman and Robin against two player-controlled teams of henchmen. Developed by Splash Damage (Brink, Quake Wars), the mode blends traditional Arkham gameplay with third-person shooter mechanics.

The 2 vs 3 vs 3 format sees two players assume the roles of Batman and Robin while the other six players are divided into two teams of three gun-toting henchmen, each team led by iconic villains Joker or Bane. These aren't any ordinary henchmen though. These Super-Villain Elites are armed with guns and special gadgets like Enhanced Vision, which works like Batman's Detective Vision to see other players through walls, as well as deadly themed weapons. And if things get too hairy for the villains they can call in their respective leader — The Joker or Bane — for some reinforcement.

While Arkham has always had a stellar single player, I'm anxious to see how this unorthodox multiplayer setup plays out. It certainly looks interesting. Batman: Arkham Origins is due out for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC on October 25, 2013.
