Namco Bandai of Japan today announced that they would be releasing a title update for Soul Calibur V. The patch will drop on the 21st and will include a full set of balance adjustments. It will also create a new in-game shop for purchasing future downloadable content. Specific details on what will be adjusted in the patch have not yet been revealed, but the patch will be used at the SCV World Tournament Finals, being held in Las Vegas on April 10th. A total of $10,000 in prizes will be on the line for attendees.
Personally, I'm glad this patch isn't before MLG in about a week, as that would throw a wrench into the competition as players would have to adjust to strategies on the fly. What's your take on balance patches for fighting games? Should companies just leave them alone and let a meta-game develop before touching anything (as Blizzard does with Starcraft) or should they nerf anything they feel is being abused right away?
