With E3 just days away and multiple unannounced projects having been spelled out by Naughty Dog already, there’s no doubt we’ll see some serious sparks from the studio soon enough. In the meantime, it’s very easy to fill your quota of jaw-drops with the personal work by some the studio’s artists.
Lead character artist Frank Tzeng has built up a sizeable archive over at Artstation. His works are often simple experiments, presumably a veritable practice run for the professional scene, but also contains a fistful of fan art, from Breaking Bad’s Heisenberg to Kenpachi Zaraki of the popular anime Bleach. The overarching connection between the pieces is that, as suggested by his title, Tzeng’s works are characters.
You can see Tzeng’s full gallery here, and a few samples in the gallery to the right.
On a different end of the artistic spectrum, concept artist Eytan Zana specializes in landscapes with a few scant characters populating them—or at least his Artstation page suggests so. With an obvious theme of a single character serving as the focal point, his works project a different message than Tzeng’s but are equally stunning. He has also dabbled in the world of fan art, having brought multiple cards from Magic: The Gathering to life on a much grander scale—interestingly, most of which are in line with the aforementioned theme.
You can see Zana’s full gallery here, again with samples shown here (now slightly to your upper right).
