Why is it that people cheat? I can't say for certain as I am happily engaged for a year now, but if I had to guess, I'd say it's for the adrenaline. Anytime you do something you shouldn't "technically" be doing, it heightens your senses. The fear of being caught and the excitement from that, I assume, is what drives most adulterers to do what they do — cheat.
This could explain why Need for Speed Most Wanted is the game of choice for most male adulterers. Dating Cheating website AshleyMadison.com, which openly encourages people to have an affair, has conducted a survey with nearly 10,000 of their male members in hopes of discovering "cheaters’ video game preferences."
What they found was that Need for Speed Most Wanted was the top gaming choice among male cheaters. Why?
Noel Biderman, founder and CEO of AshleyMadison.com, attempted to explain, “The car racing and action games get your blood pumping, get your senses heightened, and force you to think ahead of the curve. These are the same feelings and actions associated with having an affair."
"Or perhaps these men are just practicing for a quick get-away from an angry spouse," he quipped. Below are the top five games beloved by male cheaters:
- Need For Speed Most Wanted (Racing)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops II (Action)
- Fifa 2013 (Soccer, Sport)
- Forza Motorsport (Racing)
- Resident Evil 6 (Action)
Interestingly, two of the games on the list are racing games. I wonder if there is some truth to what Noel says. Anyways, I can safely say that aside from Black Ops 2, I stay far away from the remaining four games.
It should also be noted that 41.9% of the 8,695 men polled, who play video games, prefer the Xbox 360. 33.6% prefer the Wii, probably because they use it as a way to bait the ladies. Only 24.5% prefer the PS3, but we know that's because the PS3 is for hardcore gamers who don't have time to cheat.
I have to say, this whole survey brings new meaning to the word "cheat" in video games.
