Neil Gaiman enters video game sphere with Wayward Manor

Neil Gaiman, the prolific author of books and comics such as Coraline and The Sandman, is making his mark in video games with the upcoming title Wayward Manor.

The game is a puzzle-adventure that blends "the macabre" with "the glorious." In a video, Gaiman explains that he tries to find the right medium to tell a story, and this time, it's video games. He's teaming up with The Odd Gentlemen, the developer of The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom (we gave it a 9-out-of-10 in our review) to make Wayward Manor happen.

The first installment will release in the fall for PC, Mac, and tablets (mobile-game publisher Moonshark is also on board). The game's name refers to a building in New England, and its protagonist — who's dead —  wants to scare its residents away. Gaiman said the story is inspired by films he loved as a kid, such as Arsenic and Old Lace, Blithe Spirit, and The Man Who Came To Dinner.

Gaiman and the team have set up a website where fans can preorder the game for $10 and make additional contributions to earn rewards such as merchandise, a chance to be in the game, and a spooky dinner with Gaiman in Los Angeles.
