New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 “Redemption” Trailer Shows World’s Darkest Hour

Activision has just released the latest trailer for their wildly-aniticipated game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the latest installment in the biggest FPS franchise ever. The trailer spotlights the single player campaign of the game, showing off the epic continuation of the series intriguing world-conflict plotline.

Its clear from the trailer that Modern Warfare 3 will feature perhaps the most ambitious storyline in the series history. Some decried the previous game for featuring a segment where civilians were gunned down in an airport, but that seems to pale in comparison to what "Redemption" promises, with a death toll of over 100,000 mentioned, and the game's logo altered to spell out "WW3."

World War 3 seems an understatement looking at the carnage showcased in the trailer. Especially interesting is the naval portion at the beginning of the trailer, showing a sea filled with the wreckage of smoldering battleships. Naval combat is not the sort of thing which mere terrorists are capable of, and ensures that a major nation on nation conflict will play into the heart of MW3.

Also seen within the trailer:

  • A crashed airplane: possibly Air Force One as seems to be hinted in a later mid-air segment showing a firefight aboard the president's jet.
  • A police officer on the streets of England holding back a crowd, before tanks begin rolling through. Looks as though London will definitely be a battlefield in MW3.
  • Overheard: "We cannot lose New York," mentioned over shots of a destroyed skyline – sounds like Lady Liberty could be in danger.
  • A desert area, possibly Iraq or Afghanistan.
  • An African soldier dousing a man in gasoline. A rebel scenario in an area like Kenya seems within the scope of MW3.
  • A plane exploding into pieces beside the Eiffel Tower. Even France seem to be getting in on the action!

Definitely plenty to speculate about! We'll obviously have to wait until release to know how all these elements come together, but until then we'll be going over this trailer with a fine-toothed comb.
