Recently, we learned that Creative Assembly was working on Total War: Warhammer 2. While many were excited about this news, some thought it was announced too quickly, as the first entry was released in Summer 2016. Other fans of the Total War series perhaps felt cheated, as Creative Assembly was focusing on the Warhammer franchise instead of the classics. They have since, however, announced that they are also working on their next historical release as well.
"production for [its] next historical major release is well underway," a statement from Creative Assembly reads, following the announcement of Total War: Warhammer.
"We have had many questions on when our next historical title is going to be available," reads a statement on the Total War website. "We’re looking at a number of ways of bring a variety of historical content out over the coming months and years, rather than focusing on one singular project."
Not only is the development underway, but as community content editor Michael Whelan puts it, "the game design is locked and asset creation fully underway," and that the team has "seen some particularly jaw-dropping character and campaign map concepts that have really pushed the strong visual design of this release."
He also notes that it will be in an era they have not tackled yet, leaving many questions being asked about where it will be set.
