We have been hearing a bit about the X-Men spinoff movie from Fox called The New Mutants for over a year now. The film is set to be directed by Josh Boone, the director of the Fault in Our Stars, who was also supposed to be acting as the co-writer, along with Knate Gwaltney.
Now, Scott Neustradter and Michael H. Weber, the writing team behind The Fault in Our Stars and The Spectacular Now, are working on the script. It's starting to sound like New Mutants will be teeming with teen angst.
The New Mutants will be pulling from Marvel's New Mutant comic series that began in 1982 (random information: it helped introduce Deadpool to comics). The comics focus on teenaged mutant superheroes-in-training. The spin-off movie has been detailed to focus on "the angst-driven adventures of a diverse group of teens that include Native American Danielle Moonstar, Scots girl Wolfsbane, Brazilian ladies man Sunspot, a Kentuckian code-named Cannonball, and Russian teen Magik," as well as an alien named Warlock.
