Want to get your hands on the New Nintendo 3DS XL Majora's Mask Edition? I hope you're ready to pay top-dollar as scalpers quick and fortunate enough to snag the hottest new thing from Nintendo have taken to second-hand resale sites, like eBay, to make a quick profit.
The special Majora's Mask Edition of the New Nintendo 3DS XL went on sale early this morning after the conclusion of Nintendo Direct and, like all "limited" Nintendo items, sold out almost immediately from retailers online. While you still might be lucky enough to find a retailer taking orders in-store, it's pretty much impossible to find online at this point. Again, unless you're willing to pay double the cost.
Although the New Nintendo 3DS XL Majora's Mask Edition retails for $199.99, resellers are asking for more than $400 for the new hardware, which doesn't even include the AC adapter or the actual game (for those in North America). A recently ended auction on eBay concluded with the sale of a Majora's Mask Edition for the "Buy It Now" price of $500. Another listing ended at $479.99.
And to think, with over a month left until the actual release of the New Nintendo 3DS XL, it's not crazy to think secondhand sales of the Majora's Mask Edition might continue to go up in price. Damn scalpers.
I really wish there was something the industry could do to prevent this sort of thing from happening. Something like this was created with fans in mind. It's a shame to see greedy S.O.B.'s who probably don't care a bit about games make a profit off this.
