New Puzzle Quest will probably be Infinite Interactive’s next game

Last year, Puzzle Quest developer Infinite Interactive had supposedly been acquired by Firemint, one of EA's mobile studios that recently merged with IronMonkey to become Firemonkeys. It turns out that merger doesn't affect Infinite at all, because it was never actually acquired by Firemint. According to Infinite founder Steve Fawkner, there companies just developed a partnership.

Now, it looks like Infinite will go on to develop games independently, explained the creative lead. "There was never an actual acquisition of Infinite, it was more of a merger," said Fawkner in a statement to Joystiq. "It was all amicable stuff — as much as it would be fun to have a bit of a scandal. Unfortunately there isn't one. I think everybody agreed that Infinite does its best work when it's independent, and so we headed back out into the wilderness to work on our own stuff again."

In regards to what infinite has planned for the future, some more Puzzle Quest seems to be the most likely route that the studio will be taking. "While I don't have a specific announcement that I can make at the moment, if you shook a Magic 8-Ball and asked it 'Will Infinite's next game be a Puzzle Quest title?', then it would quite probably say 'All signs point to yes!" hinted Fawkner.

It should be fun and interesting seeing what Infinite has planned for the future. The company's founder went on to say that the studio will never move too far away from games that combine puzzle and storytelling, so we can probably expect more Puzzle Quest and Puzzle Quest-like games down the road. Yay!
