5th Planet Games has launched the free-to-play superhero collectible card game (CCG) Legacy of Heroes, available now.
The Kongregate exclusive is written and illustrated by comic book creators like Brian David-Marshall (Marvel, DC), co-founder of the recently acquired To Be Continued. 5th Planet intends to turn Legacy of Heroes into a transmedia property. Action figures and print and digital comics are already planned.
The premise sounds similar to X-Men: Players attend the Phaeton Project school for super-powered youth known as "Emergents." There they'll build decks, challenge others in card battles, and shape their powers as they define what type of Emergent they'd like to become.
Artists such as Steve Ellis, Amanda Conner, Lee Moder, Dan Panosian, Giancarlo Caracuzzo, and Jamal Igle have contributed to the game.
“Legacy of Heroes is steeped in the rich tradition of comic book history, and yet is totally different from anything else that’s been done before,” said David-Marshall. “I think the end result is something that all fans of comic books will really love.”
The team behind the game also created board game adaptations of The Walking Dead and Twilight.
