New system updates for PS4 and PS3

The PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 3 are both receiving system software updates, Sony announced last night. For the PS4, it's system update v1.72, while the PS3 is v4.60. In-depth update notes weren't released, but Sony did confirm that both updates will improve system software stability during use of some features.

It's been a few weeks since the PS4's last major update, 1.70, which added SHAREfactory among a number of other new features. Still, there are many features that Sony initially promised that still have yet to arrive on the PS4, including the eagerly awaited resume and suspend feature. When implemented, this feature keeps the console in a low power state while preserving game sessions, drastically reducing the time it takes to boot the console and load a saved game.

Earlier this month, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said that a number of these promised features are still in development, although he couldn't give a timeframe for their release.
