Microsoft first released their Netflix-like game streaming service, Xbox Game Pass, on the Xbox One back in June 2017. At launch, the service featured a number of Xbox One and Xbox 360 games, including both third-party and first-party games.
Today, Microsoft has announced that they will be expanding the service to include new blockbuster games. In the future, Xbox One exclusive games will be available on Xbox Game Pass the same day they release.
“Today, we’re excited to announce plans for a major expansion to Xbox Game Pass that underscores our commitment to deliver our fans the ultimate gaming subscription service,” wrote Xbox’s head of gaming, Phil Spencer, on Major Nelson’s Blog. “Moving forward, we plan to release all new Xbox One exclusive games from Microsoft Studios into Xbox Game Pass on the same date as their global release.”
Upon the release of new Xbox One exclusive games, Xbox Game Pass will be updated to include that game. This includes Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, and Crackdown 3, as well as future unannounced games from the biggest Xbox One exclusive franchises such as Halo, Forza and Gears of War.
In addition to expanding Xbox Game Pass to include brand new exclusive games, Microsoft has partnered with GameStop and other retailers to offer a 6-month Xbox Game Pass subscription card. This 6-month Xbox Game Pass subscription card will cost $59.99 and will be available March 20th.
